Houshmand Aghili was born in in Isfahan. His father recognized his vocal talents early on and encouraged him to pursue an education in the arts. At the age of 13 Aghili attended vocal lessons, under the supervision of master musician Taj Esfahani.

Soon Aghili was invited to perform at "Radio Isfahan" and participated in various musical programs. He was chosen as one of two minr vocalists for the Isfahan Student's Orchestra and also performed at various university-sponsored events.

 

Aghili received a BA in literature from Isfahan University and a second degree in journalism in Tehran.

But his love for music propelled him to continue his musical education through private classes with master musicians Mahmoud Karimi and Ismail Khan Mehrtaash.

 

At the inauguration of the Iranian National Television, Aghili was invited to perform with the prestigious National Orchestra.

This allowed him to work closely with many other gifted composers of the time, including Morteza Hanaaneh and Ghavami.

 

Aghili earned a UNESCO scholarship to visit the U.K. and upon return, he decided to join the Fanoos organization which included the most prominent artists and vocalists of the time, including the grand dame of Persian classical music, Delkash.
